Feet Shoes

In Barefoot, General on October 11, 2010 at 9:31 pm

This weekend Drew gave me a present:

Vibram Bikilas!

Yes, I know some of you are disowning me right now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The shoes are great, but I would like to take a moment to talk about the giver.
My husband is great for so many reasons. He…
Ok, you know what? I decided earlier in the day to write this post and share some insights from our marriage and all the ways Drew helps me become a better person, but it’s hours later now; I am sitting on the couch typing this and he is sitting beside me acting like a moronic 8-year-old…it’s like Stuart from Mad TV. So as you can imagine, all those deep insights from this morning currently escape me.
So I’ll just say this: I believe that marriage is between a man and woman; a partnership of equals, each with distinct and unique responsibilities. When I have something to say, some opinion about something that I think is important, I say it. And I expect it to be heard. What I love about Drew is that he makes our relationship a place where I can be sure that it will be. We know we wont always agree on everything, and we don’t expect to. That would be stupid. I am glad for all the times we do agree; but even if we don’t, I know that here I am free to speak my mind. And more importantly, here my opinion is valued.
The rest is in God’s hands.
So thanks, Drew, for all the ways you make me feel loved and important. That takes practice and hard work. It takes discipline to understand your spouse. You are the best friend to me in every way.
What a Weekend
In Barefoot, General on March 22, 2010 at 11:08 am
I would like to start by saying that we have AMAZING friends! Friends who  drop what they are doing and drive to Claytor Lake to help us with our car problems. Friends who put up with us when we call Saturday morning and invite ourselves to crash at their place Saturday night.  Yeah, we have great friends. Thanks guys for being awesome!
Secondly, congrats to everyone who finished a race this weekend in VA Beach!! Especially to my brother, Mark, who ran his first marathon!!
That is him coming down the last mile of the Shamrock Marathon with my husband cheering in the foreground (thanks to Mark Ritchie for the photo!).  You can’t see it in the picture, but he was actually limping pretty badly. Calf tightening issue. We saw quite a few weary warriors at this point all sporting their battle scars… crying, bloody nipples, various gimps and limps and intense grimaces of pain. So great job to everyone who pushed through. And Mark, we’re super proud of you!
And oh yes! People were there running in their VFFs. I was jealous. I stopped them on the street to ask questions. I have issues.
Finally, HAPPY SPRING YA’LL!
SHOES BE COMIN’!!!
In Barefoot on March 18, 2010 at 10:59 pm
Sort of. If you want to call them shoes, which not everyone does. I however, will be frantically searching the couch cushions for lost quarters, fishing in the washing machine for forgotten dimes, groping under car seats for wayward nickels and collecting pennies off the sidewalk (and out of fountains if I get desperate…haha jk…maybe) in an effort to collect enough mulah to get my hands on (or feet into) these beauties:
The Vibram Five Fingers BIKILA!!!
Ok so I use the term “beauty” loosely here and understand that it’s open to interpretation. It might be that obnoxiously bright shoes shaped like FEET aren’t really your thing.
The Bikila, rumored to be released mid-April, is reportedly named in honor of Abebe Bikila, who won the olympic marathon in Rome in 1960. He was the first black African to win an olympic medal and, yes my friends, he did it barefoot. Oh and did I mention he set a new world record? No biggie.
So don’t be shy! Look around. Birthday Shoes has lots of info on the upcoming Bikila. And you can learn more about why the VFF were developed and check out the current models their website.
Ummmmmm just one more thing. Let’s look at this a minute. Did the girls get cheated in the color department here? I mean, just look at that spectacular little teal and green number for the guys! Verses pink and orange? Good thing I like loud colors because those are screamin’. And to think I considered that color scheme for my wedding. Thank God for honest bridesmaids, amen?
Now the only question that remains is; will these attract even more stares than my running around the track in my socks?
My poor husband…pray for him.
